The school opened in 1879 by the Hull School Board for boys, girls and infants, a junior department was added in October 1895. In 1957 the senior boys were moved to the Boulevard High (boys' secondary modern) School, leaving senior girls, juniors, and infants. The senior girls moved out in the late 1960s resulting in the school becoming a mixed primary and also a junior high school for girls, until closed in 1978. In 1988 it was re-organised again as a primary school.

In 1988 it was re-organised again as a primary school and finally closed in August 2006. The buildings have subsequently been demolished and the site remains an open space. Pupils were transferred to Chiltern Primary School.
