The school opened as Stonelaw Public School on Melrose Avenue in 1886. It became Rutherglen Academy in 1926. The school closed in 1970 with a new school, Stonelaw High School, taking over the site that year.
Stonelaw relocated to new premises on Calderwood Road, Rutherglen in summer 1998.
The building was subsequently converted to flats.
