The senior council schools were built in 1938. The successor Boys' and Girls' secondary modern schools were built in 1964 and 1965 respectively. In 1979 the schools became a coeducational comprehensive establishment, based on Dane Valley County High School the former Girls' Secondary School at Jackson Road and on Heathfield County High School the former Boys' Secondary School at Box Lane
