The school founded in 1854 had had several homes before, in 1936, moving to a purpose-built school. It was nicknamed by the locals as 'Hectorage Road School' and had 315 girls on roll. It was originally a single-storey building but this was replaced in due course by a two-storey building. The school was renamed 'Hillview School for Girls' in 1968 and retains that name today.
