The Newent Grammar School was founded in 1925 and was sited at the crossroads in the building that is now the Community Centre. On 1st April 1965 Newent School was founded and moved into Gloucestershire’s first purpose built comprehensive school at Watery Lane, Newent GL18 1QF. The grammar school building on the Ross road became a youth centre after the school left it in 1965 and continued to be the venue for youth groups when, c.1980, it became the Community Centre.
