Scarborough South Bay circa 1920
These photographs show the Grand Hotel and the Grand Pavilion Refreshment Rooms (aka The Grand Restaurant) which was sited below the Grand Hotel and operated by Quartons. In the 1890s it incorporated a Lawn Tennis Court. After World War 1 Refreshment rooms were described as 'cheap and cheerful' and could seat 2000. A skating rink was incorporate in 1934. The building was damaged by fire in March 1942 while being used by the army. The property was purchased by Scarborough Corporation in 1949 and demolished to allow for the widening of Foreshore Road.
