Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway Locomotive No 88

Number 88 ran on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway for 5 years between 1925 and 1929 followed by service under the LMS and BR banners before being condemned on 26 February 1964 It spent 5 years on Barry Island at H Woodham & Sons scrapyard until it was rescued for restoration in 1969. Restoration was completed in 1987 when it became the mainstay of the West Somerset Railway's motive power for nearly nine years when it was temporarily withdrawn for overhaul. This was completed in late 2005. The photograph here was taken in May 1995.
