42859 & 35027 at the Barry Island Scrapyard

42859 was purchased for restoration and removed to RAF Binbrook. However many problems were encountered, last but not least was someone (not the owner) starting to break it up for scrap. It seems doubtful that it will ever run again.

35027, also known as Port Line, has fared better. This loco remained at Barry until 1982 and featured in the BBC documentary series The Train Now Departing (episode 6 - The Survivors - first broadcast 20/12/1988) After restoration she was based at the Bluebell Railway from 1988 until 2000 and then moved to the Swanage Railway. Further boiler work allowed a limited number of steamings from November 2000 until October 2003 when firebox cracks were discovered. The loco was sold to Jeremy Hosking in 2004 and moved to Southall. In January 2011 35027 was transferred to the Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust) and moved again to Ian Riley's workshops at Bury on the East Lancashire Railway for overhaul to mainline standard by using the boiler from 35022 Holland America Line.
