Ravenscar Brick Works


The Brick Works at Ravenscar, known as Whittaker’s Brick Works, were opened around 1900 just to the north of the tunnel in the old Alum Quarries.

The workings had a siding off the Scarborough & Whitby line (the location of which can be seen in the map below). Bricks produced sported the name RAVENSCAR, and examples be seen forming part of the path from the Raven Hall Hotel to the Trailway.

The brick works closed around 1960, and the site of the workings is now owned by the National Trust.
