A Scarborough Mere Piece of Eight (front and back)
Produced by Scarborough Corporation, these were buried on 'Treasure Island' at Scarborough Mere to be dug up
by intrepid young explorers who were transported to the island on the Hispaniola.
I visited many times but only ever found this one. It is probably quite rare.
This one circa 1958 is made of white metal, later ones were plastic.
Other current coins (unknowingly buried by my Mother and Aunt) were a far more frequent find!
